Amazing opportunities coming up in 2022!
I'll do my best to keep you all informed (with more details than I post on social media) because you guys are the BEST!
My life has been a WHIRLWIND recently so I apologize for not having the time to write more consistently. That being said, there’s a LOT of good news happening and potentially big moves that I will be making so here’s a bullet-pointed update:
I just finished my first piece for Food52 about the intersections of the wine and cannabis industries. While I was hoping to include Black business owners to this article, it just didn’t work out for this one BUT there shall be more opportunities in the future to promote Black businesspeople! If you’re based in California and love wine AND gummies, then I strongly recommend that you check out Garden Society. They have wine flavored gummies that are micro-dosed so that you can still be a productive member of society after your munchies. While they aren’t Black owned, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that their business hasn’t completely won me over. Currently they’re only available in Cali but they’re planning on expanding later this year.
I just finished my first draft for Allure magazine about decolonizing affirmations and manifestation practices. I got to interview an international professor of Afro studies/spirituality (her name is Sherri L. McFarland), and a professional therapist whose affirmations went viral on Instagram and now she’s a full time content creator and motivational speaker (her name is Faith and you can follow her on IG @fleurdelisspeaks. I learned so much while writing this piece and I can genuinely say that I’m a better, healthier person after speaking to these two amazing women.
So……I’m lowkey TikTok famous now….This is a gentle brag but also it’s been really interesting. I went from having 40 followers to over 23k in 5 weeks and I was spotted in real life by someone who follows me online recently and I didn’t know how to act. The internet was (and is) a not real place to me. It’s somewhere that I can share my stupid thoughts and hope that they resonant with a few people here and there, but now the internet is starting to feel more real. I don’t really know how to explain what I’m feeling about it but it is a weird feeling.
Speaking of TikTok, I maaaaaaay be in the middle of a potential book deal because of a video I posted on TikTok. A publicist found my video where I talked about what happened to me in Moscow and they put me in contact with an editor for a pretty cool publishing company. I had a meeting with them last week and our current game plan is that I have to add a few more essays to my first 50 pages and then send my sample back to him (and a few other publishing companies and editors that he’s friends with). Basically, I’ve been told that my book is solid but it just needs more pages for it to be more marketable. Updates on that to come!
I’m planning two trips this year with some of my best lady friends: one is to Thailand and the other is to Aruba! I’m super excited and, once again, more information on that to come.
I’ve also decided to not date for an unknown amount of time. Have you ever just thought about dating men and the first word that leaves your mouth is: “ew”? Because that’s where I’m at. Also someone of yall need to keep your grandpas off of social media because they’re in my DM’s and I don’t need a glucose papi that badly. I’m excited to explore my joyful singleness and live my best life without the stress of navigating emotionally immature or unavailable men and that’s what I’m doing :)
There are also a few other things in the works right now, but I don’t want to share anything prematurely so you’ll find out when the time is right (if things go well, FINGERS CROSSED).
That’s pretty much everything! I’ll try to be more involved with my newsletter and on IG but OOOOF ya girl is a little exhausted. Either way, enjoy this TikTok of someone who isn’t me that I find hilarious.
STAY SAFE OUT THERE, FRIENDS!
