The frustration of knowing your worth as a freelance writer
And two feature questionnaires for my special angels
Y’aaaaaaaaaaall I had a totally different plan for how I thought this newsletter was going to be about but now I’m frustrated and a little sad and I need a space to vent so here goes:
In general, once you know your worth it gets significantly harder to accept anything less than that. In dating that means that settling for the bare minimum is impossible, in relationships it means “princess treatment or I’m out of here.” Those elements of “knowing me worth” come easier to me than when it comes to my career. Now that hiring freelancers is becoming a more popular option for more publications and businesses, it’s getting easier for freelancers to get work but that does also open up the possibility of getting offered less for the work that you do. The first article I ever wrote was worth 75 dollars. Honestly, I was just amazed that someone wanted to pay me to write about Avatar the Last Airbender, but now the most expensive article I’ve ever written was worth $3,500. You don’t get an article like that everyday but, when you do, it’s a good reminder of how much your work means to people.
Why do I bring this up?
